Multiple buildings destroyed in downtown Sandpoint fire

February 11, 2019

As many as five to six buildings were destroyed Monday morning after a large-scale fire tore through downtown Sandpoint.

The City of Sandpoint Facebook page reports that the fire began at about 1 a.m. along North First Avenue, between Bridge Street and Main Street.

Video and pictures of the fire show it overtaking a group of businesses along First Avenue, including The Hound and China Kitchen restaurants and the Chocolate Bear.

Crews from Selkirk Fire Rescue were able to contain the blaze by 7 a.m., some news outlets reported.

A cause has not been determined. No injuries were immediately reported.

First Avenue is closed between Pine Street and Main Street.

At about 8 a.m., the Sandpoint Police Department reported a four- to five-vehicle crash on Long Bridge, which was blocking both lanes of U.S. Highway 95. Police ask motorists to avoid the area.

This story is developing.
