Alabama tops AP preseason poll...Lineup change for ‘Football Night in America’...15-game winners
NEW YORK (AP) — Alabama is ranked No. 1 in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 college football poll. Clemson is No. 2, followed by Georgia and Wisconsin is fourth. Ohio State is ranked fifth. The Big Ten and the Southeastern Conference each have five teams in the Top 25.
NEW YORK (AP) — There’s a change in the lineup for “Football Night In America” this season. Mike Tirico is taking over as studio host for the Sunday night program, replacing Dan Patrick. Tirico joins Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison. “Football Night In America” has been the most-watched studio show in sports since 2006.
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) —Kicker Kai Forbath is available again. The Minnesota Vikings released him today, handing the job to rookie Daniel Carlson. In 25 games with the Vikings, including the playoffs, Forbath made 50 of 57 field goals and 48 of 56 extra points. The 30-year-old has kicked for three NFL teams.
UNDATED (AP) — Two 15-game winners, Cleveland ace Corey Kluber and Boston right-hander Rick Porcello, start tonight when Cleveland visits Fenway Park. It’s the first of a four games between AL East and AL Central division leaders. If either Kluber or Porcello get the victory, they would tie Washington’s Max Scherzer and the Yankees’ Luis Severino for the major league lead in wins.
UNDATED (AP) — Felix Hernandez returns to Seattle’s rotation, a week after the only relief appearance of his career. The longtime Mariners ace was recently bumped to the bullpen after a series of shaky starts. He threw 5 2/3 innings of relief last Tuesday after James Paxton was forced to leave when he was hit in the pitching arm by a line drive. Hernandez will start in Paxton’s place when the M’s host the Astros. Houston will send Gerrit Cole to the mound.
