Mustangs picked third in District 10-5A football race
Dropping to Class 5A won’t make Friendswood’s job any easier in reaching the high school playoffs, according to Texas Football magazine.
In moving from District 24-6A to District 10-5A, the Mustangs will have plenty of talented company, not the least of which is Angleton, the magazine’s projected district winner and a team which is ranked eighth in its Top 20 Class 5A rankings for Division I.
Friendswood is picked to finish third behind Richmond Foster while Fort Bend Hightower is pegged as the fourth-place playoff squad.
Teams projected to not make the playoffs include Texas City, Shadow Creek, Galveston Ball and Rosenberg Terry.
Quarterback Seth Cosme of Angleton is the magazine’s preseason offensive most valuable player while linebacker Myakahl Brow of Texas gets the same nod on defense.
In other predictions by the magazine, Pearland is picked to win District 23-6A while Dawson is slotted in third place. Other playoffs teams projected from 23-6A include Alief Hastings (second place) and George Ranch (fourth).
Rounding out the order of finish are district newcomer Strake Jesuit, followed by Alief Taylor, Alief Elsik and Brazoswood.
Oiler running back Jaelin Benefield is pegged as the preseason offensive most valuable player while lineman Jevon Leon of Hastings is the magazine’s choice for defensive MVP.
In District 24-6A, the projected order of playoff teams is Clear Springs in first place, followed by Clear Lake, Dickinson and Clear Brook. Projected non-playoff teams are Clear Creek, Clear Falls and Alvin.
Clear Springs is also ranked 36th in the Class 6A Top 40 rankings.
In newly realigned District 22-6A, Humble Atascocita is picked to win the title, followed by fellow newcomers Humble Kingwood and Humble Summer Creek. South Houston is the choice to finish in fourth place.
Teams projected to not reach the playoffs are Pasadena Memorial, Pasadena Dobie, Humble, Pasadena and Pasadena Sam Rayburn.
South Houston quarterback Torrence Stevens is picked as the preseason most valuable player.
In District 21-6A, Galena Park North Shore is the projected winner, followed by Beaumont West Brook, Deer Park and La Porte.
