BRANSON, Mo. (AP) _ Singer Andy Williams is glad he got a second opinion.

After a node was found on his throat last October, he was forced to cancel a tour for the first time in his 63-year career. A doctor advised him to consider surgery.

``Bing Crosby had his operated on and it changed his voice. It made it lower. Well, I didn't want to sound like Bing, my voice is much higher,'' said Williams, 72. ``Julie Andrews also went through the same thing. I called her and she said it didn't work out too well.''

Williams consulted another doctor, who happened to be a fan. He gave Williams the answer he was looking for: Take several months off to see if the growth subsides.

He did, and it did. Williams will begin his ninth season at his Moon River Theatre starting Sept. 8.
