With Jones out, MacArthur’s Vitt likely to take bigger role for Texas State

He is expected to undergo surgery next week, coach Everett Withers said in a release. In starts against New Mexico State and Georgia State, Jones threw for 438 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions while running for 172 yards and two scores. … In his place, Texas State will likely turn to freshman Tyler Vitt from MacArthur High, who has thrown for 871 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions while running for 175 yards and two scores this year.Troy update: The Trojans have won six in a row against Texas State, including a 62-9 margin last year and a 40-7 thumping in 2016. … In six Sun Belt games, Troy has made 25 sacks while allowing just six. … The Trojans have won 12 straight Sun Belt Conference games. … Troy ranks fifth nationally with 21 plays of 40-plus yards this season.Greg Luca
