SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man who used a paver stone to kill another homeless man in Salt Lake City was given a sentence of 18 years to life for his convictions.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Kepedro Kegler had previously acknowledged that he attacked Kevin McCann and three others in the downtown homeless district using a paving stone and rocks in July 2017.

Kegler was homeless at the time.

McCann died of head trauma.

Kegler was sentenced to at least 15 years for McCann's killing, and another 3-year-to-life term for attempted murder of another man — sentences that will be served consecutive to one another.

He will also serve up to five years for assaulting a third person, but that sentence is to run concurrent to the other sentences.
