Chris Hoy Wins 1,000M Time Trial

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) _ Scotland’s Chris Hoy won the 1,000-meter time trial Thursday at the World Track Cycling Championships, just edging Frenchman Arnaud Tournant.
Hoy, a silver medalist at the Sydney Olympics who placed eighth at last year’s world championships, finished the four-lap race in 1 minute, 1.893 seconds.
Tournant, the defending champion, clocked 1:01.894. The bronze medal went to Shane Kelly of Australia in 1:02.128.
Switzerland’s Franco Marvulli won the men’s 1,500-meter scratch race ahead of Tony Gibb of Britain and Stefan Steinweg of Germany.
Natalja Tsylinskaja of Belarus captured the women’s 500-meter time trial in 34.838 seconds. Nancy Contreras Reyes of Mexico finished second and Kerrie Meares of Australia was third.
