Bergan ends Bulldogs run
Fremont Bergan’s powerful offense and intimidating block were too much for Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family on Saturday afternoon at the Class D-1 state volleyball championship.
Bergan, which had only lost four times all season and had only dropped 10 sets all year, hit .303 for the game, recorded just five total blocks, but had a hand or a fingertip on almost every HLHF shot all match long.
The Lady Knights jumped out to an 8-3 lead in set one, a 9-2 advantage in set two and a 10-5 margin in set three en route to a 25-15, 25-18, 25-14 victory.
Bergan never trailed at any point, outhit HLHF 43-25 and 8-1 in service aces.
Lexie Langley had 14 kills while teammate Allie DeGroff had 12. Taya Beller collected eight kills in a losing effort for the Bulldogs.
Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family ends the season 29-5 and with its first state runner-up trophy in program history.
