TOWN OF BELGIUM, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say a swimmer injured in Lake Michigan off the shores of Harrington Beach State Park has died and the search continues for a second swimmer presumed drowned.

The Ozaukee (oh-ZAH’-kee) County Sheriff’s Office says 32-year-old Paige Berndt of Milwaukee died Monday night at a hospital. A search for 34-year-old Ahmad Adl, of Franklin, resumed Tuesday.

Berndt and Adl, along with three others, went swimming in the lake Monday afternoon off the beach in the Town of Belgium. Sheriff’s officials say four got out of the lake, including the injured woman who died.

The U.S. Coast Guard assisted at least six other agencies who responded.
