MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) _ All-tournament selection Jermaine Carter registered 22 points and seven rebounds while Tournament Most Valuable Player T.J. Trimboli added 14 points and four assists off the bench as the Southern Connecticut State University men’s basketball team defeated New Hampshire College, 80-61, for the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Championship on Sunday.

The Owls (28-3) move on to the NCAA Elite Eight on Mar. 19 in Louisville, Ky., against West Region Champion Cal State-Bakersfield. New Hampshire College closes its season 25-5.

Sophomore center Jon Blandin added 17 points and 12 rebounds for SCSU while Jeritt Lewis and Tim Greene each added 10 points.

Scott Smith (23 points) and Orlando Ranson (eight points) were named to the All-Tournament team from New Hampshire College. Also named was Roger Powers from the College of Saint Rose.

Trimboli, a freshman guard, had five points in a 10-2 run which gave Southern Connecticut a 67-55 lead with 3:45 remaining in the game.

Trimboli had a team high of 17 points - including the game-winning 3-point shot with 4.6 seconds remaining - in the Owls’ 83-80 victory of Saint Rose in the semifinal Saturday.
