Opting out of unwanted newspaper circulars
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — A New Orleans-area community now has a “Do Not Toss” ordinance that will let residents put themselves on a list to avoid having newspaper circulars and similar materials thrown on their lawns.
A Thursday news release from the government of Jefferson Parish says parish officials have for years received complaints about possible problems with the printed materials. Concerns include papers piling up on the lawns of vacationing residents or the possibility of them clogging storm drains.
The ordinance was developed in cooperation with two local newspapers and The Real Yellow Pages.
The ordinance, taking effect Saturday, is for unincorporated areas of the parish.
