March 27, 2000

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) _ Now that it has labor peace, US Airways moved Monday to try and win back customers scared off by the prospect of a strike.

The Arlington-based arline announced what it calls ``special discount sale fares″ for travel in the U.S., Canada, Europe and the Caribbean.

Among the discounted fares being offered are a $258 round trip between Baltimore and San Francisco, and a $159 round trip from Washington, D.C. to Toronto.

Travel dates vary by ticket type, but all tickets have to be purchased at least seven days before departing

US Airways also announced it will award double frequent-flier miles on all flights through May 15.

The carrier and its 10,000 unionized flight attendants reached a contract agreement Saturday. The union had been threatening a series of surprise strikes, which prompted US Airways to threaten to ground all of its planes.

Shares of US Airways rose 10 percent Monday _ the first trading day after the settlement _ increasing $2.25 to $24.62 1/2 in trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
