Sax Player Dulfer Shows New Talent
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Alto saxophone player Candy Dulfer will showcase another talent in her newest recording _ her voice.
``I’m not the next Mariah Carey,″ the Amsterdam-born musician said Sunday in a statement. ``I have good timing and I can carry a tune. Besides, it’s easier to make contact with a crowd and express yourself with your voice than it is with a horn in your face.″
Dulfer, the 28-year-old daughter of saxophone player Hans Dulfer, has performed on more than 30 recordings and toured with Prince, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison and Pink Floyd. She had a 1989 hit with the song ``Lily Was Here,″ the title track to a Dutch film.
She played the drums when she was 5 and picked up the saxophone when she was 7. Her latest recording, ``For the Love of You,″ is due out Oct. 21.
