Breaking news: Collins receives 42-month sentence
URBANA -- Former Kankakee Valley Park District executive director Roy Collins has been sentenced to 42 months in federal prison on mail and wire fraud charges.
Chief Judge James Shadid announced the sentence at the conclusion of a court hearing Friday. The judge also ordered Collins to serve two years probation at the conclusion of the sentence. The amount of restitution Collins will be ordered to pay back to the park district will be determined in about a month.
Collins did not comment following the two-hour, 45-minute hearing in U.S. District Court. Before being sentenced, Collins said: “I’m embarrassed for what I did. I apologize to the park district, the board and the residents of the district. I let down a lot of people. For that I am sorry.″
Collins is set to report to the Bureau of Prisons at 2 p.m. on Feb. 26.
