BLACKTOWN, Australia (AP) _ Luisa Medina drove in two runs with a fourth-inning single as Cuba rallied to earn its first Olympic softball win, beating Canada 2-1.

The game left the teams tied for last at 1-5. Both had previously been eliminated from medals contention.

Canada took the lead in the first when Denise Carriere and Hayley Wickenheiser singled with one out, then Erin Woods walked to load the bases. Sommer West hit a sacrifice fly to score Carriere.

But Laritza Espinosa shut down the Canadians from there on a total of five hits and a walk while striking out five.

Haydee Hernandez and Olga Ruyol singled with one out in the fourth before Vilma Alvarez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Medina singled to score both runs.

Softball was added as an Olympic sport in 1996, but Cuba did not make the eight-team tournament.
