James ‘Jim’ O’Connor

Visitation for James W. “Jim” O’Connor, 62, of Kankakee, will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Monday, Nov. 12) at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kankakee. The Rev. John Peeters will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kankakee.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, online at diabetes.org, or to the family wishes.

Jim passed away Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2018) in the emergency room at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital, Kankakee.

He worked for several years as a mechanic at Anderson International, J. Merle Jones and Chicago International, all in Kankakee.

Jim was born Feb. 18, 1956, in Kankakee, the son of William and Berdell (Crawley) O’Connor. He was a graduate of Eastridge High School and the Nashville Diesel College. He enjoyed gardening, walking and watching NASCAR races, the Cubs, Notre Dame football and Western movies, especially John Wayne.

Surviving are his mother, of Kankakee; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Linda O’Connor, of Montgomery, Ala.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary and Pete Gooding, of Bradley, Patricia O’Connor, of Louisville, Ky., and Nora and Benny Denault, of Kankakee; four nieces, Erin Burdeshaw, Melissa Gilbert, Elizabeth Gooding and Brandi Zinnel; and three nephews, Tim and Christopher O’Connor and Brian Gooding; along with two great-nieces and four great-nephews.

Preceding him in death were his father in 2007; paternal grandparents, William and Mary O’Connor; maternal grandparents, Walter and Mae Crawley; one niece, Susan Gooding; and many aunts and uncles.
