Woman Finds Stolen Jewelry Around Boy’s Neck

October 12, 1989

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) _ Phylis Robinson thought she would never see the more than $9,000 in jewelry and other items stolen from her home.

But when Robinson, 35, took the bus to work Wednesday, she saw a ring, gold nugget bracelet, gold watch and an 18-inch gold chain she was sure were taken in Sunday’s burglary. They were on a boy riding near the back of the bus.

″It was on my mind that I might see somebody with the stuff,″ Robinson said. ″I couldn’t believe it when I did.″

She told the driver, who radioed the Rochester Transit System dispatcher, who called police.

Shawn Rucker, 16, of Rochester, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property. He was being held Wednesday night pending arraignment, police said.

″It was one in a million. The kid was shocked,″ said Sgt. Louis D’Angelo.

Robinson said the jewelry belonged to her and two friends who live with her.
