DENVER (AP) _ Butch Huskey was designated for assignment Thursday by the Colorado Rockies, who have 10 days to trade the outfielder, send him outright to the minors or release him.

The team said the move was necessary because of the addition of free-agent Ron Gant to the Rockies' 40-man roster. Gant, 35, agreed Sunday to a $2.05 million, one-year contract.

Huskey, 29, was acquired by the Rockies from the Minnesota Twins with infielder Todd Walker on July 16. Huskey appeared in 45 games for Colorado and hit .348 with four homers and 18 RBIs.

Huskey has also played for the New York Mets, the Seattle Mariners, the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins.
