Local Botanist to Lead Discussion and Walk
LUNENBURG -- Lunenburg Public Library will host local botanist Matthew Charpentier for a two-part program on local ecology.
On Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 7 to 8 p.m., Charpentier will deliver a slide show and narrative titled “Stories of the Forest: A Natural History of Wildflowers Found in Lunenburg” at the library, 1023 Massachusetts Ave. Then, on Sunday, Aug. 19, he’ll lead a guided walk through the Robbs Hill Conservation Area.
The subject of the talk and ensuing guided walk will be some of the diverse and rare species that can be found in town. The stories behind the species, their relationships, and the landscape and natural history that led to their presence in town will also be discussed.
There will be time for questions, and the guided walk will take participants through one of the more peculiar habitats in town, a quaking bog.
Both programs are free and open to the public. Space is limited for the guided walk, however, and registration is required. For more information, or to register for the walk, call 978-582-4140.
