Closures extend through Thursday due to dangerous temperatures affecting morning commute

January 30, 2019

Thursday’s temperatures will not bring reprieve for DeKalb County, and could in fact be colder than Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Thus, the DeKalb 428, Sycamore 427 and Hiawatha 426 school districts have already called off for Thursday. The Voluntary Action Center’s services, including Meals on Wheels, will also be canceled once again.

The low for DeKalb County is expected to be minus-32, with wind chills reaching minus-48 or more, said NWS Meteorologist Todd Kuber.

“It won’t be much different than [Wednesday],” Kuber said. “It will be colder tomorrow morning, even though the winds will be less.”

Temperatures likely won’t rise until late Thursday evening, reaching a “balmy negative two or three,” Kuber said.

D-428 Superintendent Jamie Crave said classes are expected to resume Friday – the only day this week that school will have been in session.

Stay tuned. This list will be updated as more closures are announced.
