‘Maddy’s Gift’ Collection Exceeds All Expectations
“For it is in giving that we receive.” — St. Francis of Assisi The true spirit of Christmas has found its way to the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville via our readers and many, many gift givers in our area. A few weeks ago, we told you about the Benjamin family, of Kingston, which for the past five years has collected gifts for ill children at the children’s hospital in memory of their beloved daughter, Maddy, who passed away two weeks before Christmas in 2013. Maddy passed away at the tender age of 4. She had Nemaline Myopathy, a congenital, rare genetic disorder and had spent each and every Christmas at the Janet Weis Hospital. Tracy Benjamin had expressed that “Maddy’s Gift” collection would hopefully exceed last year’s toy collection of 300 presents. Joyfully, Benjamin and her family has this to report, “We had just dropped the gifts off at the hospital and our final count for our collections this year was 693. Thank you again to everyone who had donated and helped with “Maddy’s Gift” this year.” Plymouth Kiwanis Christmas party The Plymouth Kiwanis Club held its annual Christmas party recently at the Shawnee Room of Happy Pizza in Plymouth. Following an attitude adjustment hour, a festive holiday dinner was enjoyed by all. Entertainment was provided by the Holiday Concert Choir of the Wyoming Valley West High School under the direction of Choir Director Jill Antall. Party-goers each brought new, unwrapped toys for donation to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots holiday project. Members of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve attended the party, accepting the toys on behalf of the Plymouth Kiwanis Club and guests. Members of the Wilkes-Barre Kiwanis Club were in attendance at the interclub holiday event.
