Husband sentenced to 65 years in wife’s slaying
A Fort Wayne man who set his wife on fire last year, killing her, is likely to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Eddie Caldwell, 55, pleaded guilty in February to murder in the Sept. 12 attack that left 68-year-old Lizzie L. Caldwell badly injured. She died after 16 days in the hospital from “respiratory and renal failure due to thermal burns,” the Allen County coroner’s office said.
Caldwell was sentenced this morning to 65 years in prison. Police said Caldwell doused his wife in gasoline before setting her ablaze.
