Homeowners association official accused of pocketing $97K
WASHINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Authorities have accused the secretary-treasurer of a homeowner’s association in North Carolina of taking more than $97,000 from the association’s bank account.
News outlets report the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office charged 36-year-old Charlotte J. Cutler of Bath with embezzlement.
According to the sheriff’s office, Cutler was an officer for the Mixon Creek Homeowner’s Association in Bath. Deputies say their investigation began last September, and after obtaining multiple court orders and analyzing bank records, they obtained warrants against Cutler.
The sheriff’s office said Cutler turned herself in to the sheriff’s office and was released on a $50,000 unsecured bond. It’s not known if she has an attorney.
