$50000 reward in theft, arson of South Carolina home
MAYESVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina man is offering $50,000 for information leading to conviction of burglars who burned down his house and recovery of all they stole.
Rob Dinkins of Mayesville tells WLTX-TV his family was on vacation when the house burned Dec. 29, but lost everything except the contents of their suitcases.
Dinkins says they didn’t have insurance because of the plantation’s age and location.
It was a 200-year-old two-story home that had been remodeled in 1904 into one story.
Lee County sheriff’s Maj. J.D. Dellinger says investigators believe burglars set the home on fire.
Deputies found that the family’s safe had been cut open with a grinder. It had held 30 long guns, shotguns and rifles, silver coins and more than $50,000 cash. All were stolen. Everything else burned.
