France’s Pascal Pape appeals against severity of 10-week ban
LONDON (AP) — France lock Pascal Pape has appealed against the severity of his 10-week ban for kneeing Ireland No. 8 Jamie Heaslip in the back during a Six Nations game.
Competition organizers said in a statement released Friday that Pape’s appeal is on the grounds that the suspension is “excessive and disproportionate.”
The appeal hearing will be held in London next week.
Pape was given a yellow card for the offense during the second half of France’s 18-11 loss to the Irish in Dublin on Feb. 14, but was later cited and found to have deliberately committed an act of foul play. The challenge left Heaslip with three broken vertebrae.
