KHABAROVSK, Russia (AP) _ A granite obelisk was erected Tuesday on a mountain in Russia's Far East in memory of 97 people who died when a passenger plane crashed at the site two months ago.

A helicopter carried the 6-foot-tall obelisk from Khabarovsk to the remote Bo-Jaus mountain, news reports said.

``In this place on the mountaintop a passenger plane making a night flight perished for an unclear, horrible reason,'' reads an inscription on the monument, said the ITAR-Tass news agency.

The obelisk also is engraved with an image of the Tu-154 plane, which crashed Dec. 7 on a flight from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, on Sakhalin Island, to Khabarovsk, on Russia's mainland. The jetliner went into a sudden spin and slammed into the ground.
