Enraged Woman Kills 12-Year-Old

October 2, 1985

SAN DIEGO (AP) _ A 12-year-old girl doing her homework was shot and killed by a woman who became enraged over a lost newspaper, police said.

Police homicide Lt. Paul Ybarrondo said Regina Taylor, 23, was booked into the Las Colinas women’s jail for investigation of the murder of Denise Lashon Hill, who was killed by a shotgun blast in the living room of her grandparents’ San Diego home Monday night.

Her grandfather and Taylor’s stepfather, John Robinson, told police the girl lived there and attended school in nearby Lemon Grove. Taylor was staying there since separating from her husband, police said.

Robinson said he, Taylor and the girl were in the living room when Taylor became angry because she couldn’t find part of the newspaper. He said she went into her bedroom, came out with a shotgun and fired at the girl.

Robinson told police Taylor tried to reload the gun but he took it away from her and ran to a neighbor’s house to call police.

Ybarrondo said when police arrived, they found Taylor inside the house talking to an emergency operator on the phone. He said four of Taylor’s children wee sleeping in the house at the time and were not injured.
