TEWKSBURY -- A Tewksbury man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly stabbing another man and his dog, police said.

Anthony Puliafico, 54, of 202 Ames Hill Drive, was arrested on Tuesday on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and cruelty to animals, according to a police press release.

Authorities said that Puliafico’s dog became “involved in a clash” with another man’s dog at the Ames Hill apartment complex, prompting an altercation between the two men. Puliafico then allegedly used a knife to stab the victim, who was not identified, and the victim’s dog, police said.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. An investigation identified Puliafico as the suspect.

Puliafico was due to be arraigned at Lowell District Court on Wednesday. Results from the arraignment were not immediately available.
