LAS VEGAS (AP) _ Michael Pittman scored three touchdowns and rushed for 131 yards on 27 carries as Fresno State beat UNLV 34-23 Saturday to snap an eight-game road losing streak.

Pittman scored twice in the first half on runs of 24 and 2 yards, then added a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Bulldogs coach Jim Sweeney, who on Thursday announced his retirement at the end of the season, improved his career record to 199-151-4 in 32 seasons.

Fresno State (3-4, 3-2 Western Athletic Conference) scored its last touchdown when Jim Arellanes hit tight end Scott Thompson with a 9-yard pass in the second quarter. Arellanes completed 10-of-19 for 109 yards before being replaced by Richie Donati in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs also scored on a 42-yard field goal by Armen Torigian with 43 seconds remaining in the first half and dropped UNLV quarterback Jon Denton twice for fourth-quarter safeties.

UNLV (0-9, 0-5 WAC), which led by 10 points twice in the first half, extended its losing streak to 11 games over the past two seasons.

Denton, a redshirt freshman, completed 17-of-38 for 233 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Baker in the first quarter. He also carried for a 1-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Alan Di Leo kicked field goals of 44, 21 and 42 yards.
