Penn 26, Towson 14
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Matt Rader threw for 204 yards and a touchdown and defensive back Joseph Piela ran back an interception and a fumble for scores Saturday to lead Penn over Towson 26-14.
Rader connected on a 21-yard TD pass to Brian Bonano in the first quarter to put Penn (1-2) ahead 10-0. Jim Finn’s 11-yard run gave the Quakers a 17-0 halftime lead.
Towson (1-3) intercepted Rader twice in the second half but couldn’t score until the fourth quarter, after Piela had intercepted a Kevin Smith pass and scampered 24 yards to put Penn up 23-0.
Towson’s Jason Corle scored from three yards out and Adam Overbay followed with a nine-yard TD reception to close to 24-14.
But with 1:44 left to play, Penn forced a fumble on Towson’s 2-point conversion. Piela scooped up the ball and ran 83 yards to give the Quakers their final points.
Jason McGee led Penn’s ground game with 82 yards on 23 carries.
