PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Monick Foote scored 18 points and DeMya Walker added 14 to lead seventh-ranked Virginia to a 64-55 victory over Pittsburgh in the season opener Friday night for both teams.

Virginia led the entire game, outshooting the Lady Panthers in field goal attempts and grabbing 41 rebounds to Pitt's 25. Tiffany Bower led Virginia with seven rebounds.

Pitt's Latia Howard scored 21 points, while teammate Melissa Thompson added 10 points and hauled in six rebounds.

Pitt came within four points with four minutes left in the game, on a 3-point basket by JoJo Guzman. But a free throw by Jackie Glessner and a layup by Foote put the game away for Virginia.
