LOCAL COLLEGE ROUNDUP: Burkarth Tabbed To Lead Wilkes Women’s Lacrosse
Wilkes University named Sarah Burkarth its newest women’s lacrosse head coach on Wednesday, the school announced in a news release.
Burkarth was a graduate assistant with the Colonels last season.
“An advantage of transitioning from graduate assistant to head coach is that I can hit the ground running with no down time,” Burkarth said in a statement, “and I am thankful to (Athletic Director) Addy Malatesta and Associate Director of Athletics Phil Wingert for the opportunity.”
The Colonels finished 3-13 last season. Kammie Towey coached the team in her 12th season before stepping down in the fall.
Wilkes dropped a high-scoring affair at home on Wednesday, 99-90 to Delaware Valley.
Mark Mullins led Wilkes with 24 points. Rob Pecorelli was right behind him with 23.
Also for Wilkes (12-6, 4-3 MAC Freedom) Marcus Robinson scored 17 points and Tommy Bowen had 15.
