BILLERICA -- Diondre Turner set the tone by taking the game’s opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown and host Shawsheen Tech never took its foot off the gas in a 22-0 victory over Greater Lowell Tech on Friday night.

The Rams’ stifling defense, which tallied a second-quarter safety, overwhelmed the Gryphons. Senior defensive ends Frank Irizarry (eight tackles, two sacks) and Troy Tamis (six tackles, two sacks), and senior defensive tackle Omar Eldaly (six tackles, sack) were key cogs in Shawsheen’s inspired effort.

Shawsheen improved to 2-1, while GLT dropped to 2-1.

“Our defense has really been our strong point so far this season,” said ST head coach Al Costabile.

Senior defensive back Ryan Quinones had an interception and he also caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from quarterback C.J. Zemetres.

Turner added a 2-yard TD run in the third quarter to finish off the scoring.
