Japanese duo wins jumping event
FALUN, Sweden (AP) — A Japanese duo won Saturday’s World Cup event with teenager Sara Takanashi continuing her unstoppable rise.
Takanashi beat compatriot Yuki Ito and third-placed Julia Finkykkaenen of Finland, grabbing 228 points after two jumps of 90.5 meter and 91 meters.
Ito leaped 89.5 meters and 89 meters, while Finkykkaenen flew 86 meters and 86.3 meters.
Takanashi, who has already won the overall title, extended her total to 1,620 points, twice as much as second-place Carina Vogt of Germany, who has 806 points. Irina Avvakumova of Russia was third with 705.
Vogt ended fifth Saturday with 205.4 points behind fourth placed Julia Clair of France.
