Rochester man reportedly stole car from gas station
A Rochester man was arrested late Christmas night after he allegedly stole a car from a gas station.
Larry Maurice Howard, 35, may be facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle, tampering with a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license and providing a false name, according to Rochester Police Capt. Casey Moilanen.
A 30-year-old man had left a 2005 Chevy equinox running around 11:15 p.m. at the Kwik Trip, 1933 S. Broadway Ave., while he was going to run inside, Moilanen said. The man noticed someone suspicious and was returning to the car when someone got in it and drove off, Moilanen said.
The man and another witness briefly followed the Chevy in another car before returning to the gas station to call police. The car was stopped a short time later in the 1200 block of Marion Road. The driver’s description matched the one the man gave to police, Moilanen said.
Howard allegedly gave police a fake name initially and admitted to stealing the car.
