Former Hempfield star Katie Miller cruises to victory in USGA Mid-Am qualifier
The task wasn’t daunting but its execution could not be taken lightly. Katie Miller still had to go out and finish the job.
Miller only had to finish in the top two in a scaled-down, five-player field Monday at Nemacolin Woodlands’ Mystic Rock Golf Course to advance to the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.
No problem for the former Hempfield and North Carolina standout. Miller, a former professional who regained her amateur status in 2014, won the USGA qualifier by 12 strokes, firing a 2-under-par 70. She made four birdies on the front nine for a 3-under 33.
Jordan Craig-Nyiri, a Connellsville grad, also qualified with an 82.
The U.S. Women’s Mid-Am is set for Sept. 22-27 at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis.
