Spring Early College Academy to move to Lone Star College campus
The Spring Early College Academy will relocate to a Lone Star College campus for the 2019-2020 school year.
The LSC-North Harris campus at 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive agreed to provide classroom and office space for the academy, said Lupita Hinojosa, chief of school leadership and student support services.
“We’re the only early college (academy) that was not on a college campus,” she said.
The academy has been located at its current at 14450 TC Jester Blvd. since 2016.
The academy’s current building will then be converted to a new campus, which is currently known as middle school #9.
The new school will be a specialty school which will focus on community-based leadership and is expected to house up to 400 students, Hinojosa said.
“We’re looking for students who benefit from a small learning environment. We’re looking for students who are those go-getters, who are resilient, who are tenacious, who are motivated to do and be challenged,” she said.
Before the school opens, students with a high academic record will need to apply with a recommendation.
Students who apply will be chosen by lottery.
The additional middle school would not be part of the $330 million bond, which is being used to fund construction projects, technology upgrades and security, among other goals.
A budget for the new school has not yet been announced.
