25-year-old man dies in fiery crash southwest of Lincoln, sheriff’s office says
A driver whose vehicle caught fire late Wednesday night in a crash south of Lincoln has died, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said.
Francisco Gonzalez, 25, of Lincoln was the sole occupant found in the silver 2001 Honda when deputies and Hickman rural fire crews reached the scene along South 68th Street between Stagecoach and Panama roads at 11:59 p.m., a news release said.
Residents who live nearby and were returning home called 911, initially reporting that a car was on fire, Sheriff Terry Wagner said.
Gonzalez died at the scene, he said.
The crash remained under investigation.
Investigators didn’t know whether Gonzalez was wearing a seat belt, but they believed speed was a factor, the sheriff’s office said.
Wagner said they believe Gonzalez was returning to Lincoln from his job at Prairieland Dairy near Firth.
