SAN DIEGO (AP) — A judge has cleared the way for release of a video that shows a San Diego police officer fatally shooting an unarmed man.

U.S. District Judge William Hays ruled Wednesday that the family of Fridoon Rawshan Nehad (ne-HOD') can release the video of the April shooting that they obtained in a wrongful-death lawsuit on condition that it not be shared.

The San Diego County district attorney has declined to prosecute Officer Neal Browder, who was responding to a 911 call of a knife-wielding man. The city and the officer opposed the video's release, saying it could taint a police investigation and the lawsuit. The judge gave them a week to respond to his ruling.

Several news organizations asked the judge to allow that the video be released.
