LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) _ Affluent assumed the lead in midstretch and beat Golden Apples by a neck in Saturday's $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.

Affluent, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, covered the 1 1/8-mile on the turf in 1:50 2/5 and paid $14.20, $5.60 and $3.80 in the Grade I invitational race for 3-year-old fillies..

Golden Apples returned $5 and $4. Snow Dance, undefeated in four previous turf races, paid $4.20 to show.

The victory, worth $310,000 for owner Janis Whitham and trainer Ron McAnally, was the fourth in 10 career starts for Affluent.

``It was a nice win,'' Delahoussaye said. ``(Affluent) runs better from behind and we got that pace scenario today. She tried real hard.''
