Colombian Prosecutor Slain
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) _ A gunman on a motorcycle shot and killed a federal prosecutor as she stepped outside her home in Medellin on Monday.
The motorcycle driven by an accomplice sped away and there were no arrests made, said police, who didn’t specify a possible motive.
The slain attorney, 32-year-old Margarita Pulgarin, belonged to a corps of special prosecutors working on sensitive drug trafficking and terrorism cases.
The prosecutors had worked anonymously for their protection until their identities and those of many judges were made public following complaints that defendants were denied due process by the so-called ``faceless″ justice system.
Pulgarin was the second prosecutor from Antioquia State assassinated since the reform, said a statement Monday by her fellow state prosecutors.
Seven others have fled the country amid threats, said the colleagues. They threatened to massively resign or flee the country if the government did not provide greater security.
