Winter Storm Postpones Most Of Saturday’s Sports Events
Two high school teams will be taking on an additional opponent today, trying to beat Mother Nature to the punch.
In an effort to finish ahead of the winter storm, Scranton Prep’s wrestling team will get an early start, on the road to Montrose for a 10 a.m. dual meet in Lackawanna League Division II action.
It’s the only scholastic event on tap today as all others were postponed or canceled.
Six high school basketball games were postponed.
Elk Lake boys will now host Towanda on Jan. 26 at 2:30 p.m., while Mountain View will entertain Wyoming Area on Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m.
In girls action, Wallenpaupack at Pocono Mountain West is canceled, and Wyoming Seminary at Lackawanna Trail is postponed with plans to reschedule, if possible, to a mutually agreeable date. Blue Ridge will host Northwest Area on Feb. 9 at
6 p.m., while no dates have been announced for Dallas at Susquehanna, and Western Wayne at Honesdale.
Blue Ridge, West Scranton and Western Wayne were scheduled to participate in today’s Berwick Duals, but that tournament was scratched.
The University of Scranton’s basketball doubleheader at Landmark Conference foe Juniata College is still scheduled to begin today at noon with the women’s game, followed by the men’s tilt.
Three basketball doubleheaders were moved to Monday evening: Marywood women and men at Immaculata at 5; King’s women and men at Delaware Valley at 6; and DeSales women and men at Misericordia at 6. DeSales and Misericordia women are both unbeaten atop the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom standings.
Lackawanna women will now host Rowan-Burlington on Tuesday at 5, while the men’s game will be played Feb. 14 at a time to be determined.
Penn State Scranton’s doubleheader at Penn State Dubois will be played Feb. 10 starting at 1 p.m.
Lackawanna College’s wrestling meet at Camden Community College was scratched. The tri-meet between the University of Scranton and Bergen Community College at Penn Tech is postponed, with no make-up date announced.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins game against Hershey is bumped up to a 3:05 start this afternoon at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Sunday’s American Basketball Association game between the Scranton Shamrocks and Philly Cannons at Backcourt Hoops is postponed, too, with no make-up date set.
The Shamrocks return to action Jan. 26 against the Norristown Knights at 6 p.m.
