Wyoming County Race Draws 10 Hopefuls
TUNKHANNOCK — Three Democrats and seven Republicans are vying for spots on the Wyoming County Board of Commissioners ballot. The packed race is the highlight of the May 21 primary election. The top two vote-getters from each party will advance to the Nov. 5 general election. The top three vote-getters in that election will take office in January. On the Democratic side, newcomers Ernie King, Mick Cronin and Rick Hiduk will square off. Incumbent Mike Stabinsky, who was appointed this winter to fill a vacancy created by Ron Williams’ death is not running in the primary. Fighting for the two Republican nominations are incumbent Tom Henry and challengers Sandra Ritz, Rick Wilbur, Randy White, Gene Dziak Sr., Tina Henning and Daniel Gay. Judy Kraft Mead, who’s been on the board for more than 19 years, is not seeking reelection. Other contested row offices on the Republican ballot include incumbent Karen Bishop and newcomer Cindy Zika Newhart for Wyoming County prothonotary and Bob Roberts and David Smith for Wyoming County sheriff. In Wyoming County municipal races, contested races include incumbent Kenny White and Mark Novak for Eaton Twp. supervisor; incumbent Roy Landsiedel and Luke Franko for Falls Twp. supervisor; incumbent William Smith and Verne Croasdale for Nicholson Twp. supervisor; incumbent Gerald Fritsch Jr. and John Walsh for Overfield Twp. supervisor; and incumbent Marshall Davis and Ronald Coolbaugh for Tunkhannock council, ward 4. In Wyoming County school boards, contested races include incumbents David Thorne and Joe Strauch facing a challenge from Brian Petula for two seats in Lackawanna Trail’s Region 1, which includes Clinton and Nicholson townships, and Nicholson borough. Incumbents Toni Valenti and Gerald Stofko will be challenged by Matt Bartoli, Lara Best, Ross Giamusso, Leonard Pribula Jr. and Philip Campenni for five at-large spots in Wyoming Area. Write-ins could be a big factor as well because no one filed for council spots in Factoryville’s Ward 1, Tunkhannock’s Ward 1 and Laceyville and Braintrim Twp. supervisor.
