High notes

Scholarships in honor of Dr. Howard R. and Marian C. Patton and Cathy Collins, R.N., helped four Luzerne County Community College nursing program students achieve their goals.

Mandy Batalin, Kim Verderber, Jennifer Stitt and Kathryn Nielsen were recipients of the scholarships and graduated in May from the LCCC program at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Both families the scholarships honor had ties to the hospital. The Patton Memorial Nursing Scholarship was created by Howard and Marian’s children in 2010 to benefit nursing students. The Cathy Collins Scholarship was created in memory of long-time Wayne Memorial nurse and LCCC nursing instructor, Collins, who passed away in 2015.
