NC-Greensboro 82, Winthrop 60

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) _ The trio of Scott Hartzell, Derrick Nix and Eric Cuthrell keyed a second half offensive attack as North Carolina-Greensboro defeated host Winthrop 82-60 on Saturday.

Greensboro placed five players in double figures with Skeet Woolard and Jonathon Clifton leading the way with 17 and 14. Hartzell and Nix had 12 each while Cuthrell scored 11 and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Winthrop was led by Andrew McFalls with 15, and Chad Steele added 12.

The Eagles trailed by just 1 point at 41-40 with 16:34 remaining when Hartzell and Nix took over. The pair hit back-to-back jumpers to start Greensboro on a 10-0 run that gave the Spartans a 51-40 cushion with 14 minutes to play.

The guard duo accounted for 32 of Greensboro’s 50 second-half points. They scored 9 each and created another 14 points on assists.

The Spartans are the top 3-point shooting team in the nation. Woolard led the way with four 3-pointers while Hartzell connected on three.

The Eagles were able to hit just 4-of-21 3-point shots.
