2 boaters heading from Florida to Bahamas rescued
MIAMI (AP) — Officials say the U.S. Coast Guard and the Royal Bahamas Defense Force rescued two stranded boaters who had been traveling from Florida to the Bahamas.
A news release says a plane from Coast Guard Air Station Miami spotted the man and woman’s 29-foot yacht Thursday night. They were anchored, waving their hands and shooting flares about 22 miles north of Freeport, Bahamas. Members of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force transported the man and woman to shore. No injuries were reported.
Family members had contacted the Coast Guard after the boaters left Stuart, Florida, Wednesday morning and then failed to arrive in West End, Bahamas, later that day as scheduled.
