Northeast receives scholarship money from Nebraska Open golf tournament

November 12, 2018

NORFOLK - Approximately $1.5 million in 27 years has been raised from the Nebraska Open golf tournament for scholarships between five of the state’s community colleges.

Northeast Community College has received $314,510 and accepted another $16,000 at the Board of Governors meeting last Thursday.

Northeast accepted the check from Cathy Kathol, Account Manager with Nebraska Public Power District, and Kurt Dostal, Business Relationship Manager for Wells Fargo Bank.

President Dr. Michael Chipps said a faculty member and student go to the tournament every year and thank everyone there for supporting them.

“The stories these students tell is that they wouldn’t have found a college without the support of this scholarship. It’s meaningful to take students down every year, have dinner with them, and let them tell their story to the people giving the scholarship.”

Chipps said the scholarship dollars will certainly impact many of the student in achieving their academic goals and professional ambitions.
