FARGO, N.D. (AP) _ Kasey Morlock scored 20 points as three-time defending champion North Dakota State breezed to a 91-65 victory over last year’s runnerup, Portland State, in Wednesday’s Division II quarterfinals.
Jenni Rademacher, the Bison’s 5-foot-9 senior wing, scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Her season average was just 4.6 rebounds per game.
North Dakota State (28-2) never trailed in the contest, coming out of the gate with a 6-0 run.
Portland State (25-5) was called for six fouls in the first 3:01, including two on leading scorer Kristi Smith. Kim Manifesto, the Vikings’ other key offensive threat, had four fouls in the first half.
Portland trailed 56-33 at the intermission and never got closer than 19 points in the second half.
Lori Roufs and Rhonda Birch each scored 12 for the Bison, while Rachael Otto and Tanya Fischer, a 5-10 freshman, each added 10.
Smith led the Vikings with 16 points. Kelli Chandler-Read added 11 and six rebounds.
Manifesto, who averaged 15 points per game during the season, was held to six points before fouling out late in the game.
