Foster Grandparents Receive Awards For Service
Four Foster Grandparents were recently honored for 10 years of service in the Foster Grandparent Program. These awards were presented at the 46th Annual Recognition Luncheon for FGP, held at A Touch of Class Catering. Each of the 10 year members received an engraved mantle clock. The local Foster Grandparent Program is sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming Counties and federally funded by the Corporation for National Service. Foster Grandparents are those individuals age 55 or older that meet income eligibility standards and have a desire to work with children. For 20 hours per week of service they are entitled to many benefits including monetary compensation. First row, from left, are Patricia Leandri, Child Development Council; Mary Ann Cope, State Street Elementary School, Wyoming Valley West School District; Barbara Zdun, Child Development Council, and Mary Esposito, Hazleton YMCA/YWCA. Second row: Mary Lou Zerfoss, FGP director; Kathy Zgagowski, FGP field coordinator; and Renee Wilson, Mature Worker Program, assigned to FGP. The Foster Grandparent Program is currently recruiting several new Foster Grandparents. A pre-service orientation class for new members will be held in October for recruits from the Hazleton area. A second orientation session will be held for those individuals from the Wyoming Valley area. To register for the one of these sessions, call Zgagowski or Zerfoss at 822-1158 or 1-800-252-1512.
