Strangled woman found in recycling bin

September 11, 2018

A Harris County man has been charged with tampering with evidence after a strangled woman was found in a recycling bin in his room.

At around 7 p.m. Thursday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office was alerted of the dead woman at Alex Jude Akpan’s home in the 9600 block of Wellsworth Drive, near Bissonnet and Eldridge Parkway west of the Alief area.

A $10,000 bond was set for the 24-year-old, who is set to be arraigned on Oct. 8.

The dead woman, who is yet to be identified, was described by the Harris County Institute for Forensic Sciences as a young, black woman about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and 162 pounds with medium-length, black hair.

She had single ear piercings with large, yellow, metal hoop earrings and was wearing a black and white jersey with “NYC Classic” written on it. It appears to have an orange stain. She was also wearing olive green pants.

A gray Hanes hoodie was tied around her waist. She was not wearing shoes or socks.

The agency is asking anyone with information about the woman’s identity to contact them at 832-927-5000.
